Open Windows Explorer at “This PC” Instead of Quick Access

While Quick Access is great for finding a recently or commonly used file or folder. Those who just want to find something quickly on their computer might prefer the This PC view from Windows 7 and Windows 8. If you’d rather open the usual This PC with links to your drives and library folders, here’s how.

How To Change  Windows Explorer to open This PC

  1. Press Windows + E to open a Quick access window.

  2. Click View in the ribbon then select Options

  3. This will open the Folder Options window.

  4. Here Under General Tab, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”

  5. Now when you launch a new Explorer window, you’ll start on This PC.

  6. Which you’re probably used to from past versions.

Set up GodMode

GodMode for Windows 10 gives you access to 262 new god-like powers. And while it doesn’t give you unlimited lives or save you from blue screens. It does expose some additional features and tools to play with. The awesomely named GodMode brings up a special menu that puts lots of settings together in one place.

To enable it, create a new folder anywhere on your root drive and rename it GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. It will create a special icon that when you click on it shows you a beautiful advanced control panel.

Make Google to Default Search on Windows 10

Bing is the default search engine for Microsoft Edge and the Windows 10 search bar. And it’s hard to get away from Microsoft’s search engine. However, despite improvements and Microsoft’s best efforts to force Bing upon Windows users, Google will always reign supreme. While totally removing Bing from Windows 10 is impossible, you can kick it out of Edge and clumsily replace it in the Windows 10 search bar.

How to remove Bing from Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Edge and select the ellipsis on the right,

  2. Go to Settings, then  select Advanced Settings

  3. Under “Search in the address bar” change the default option to Add New.

  4. Here, you’ll see a list of available search engines.

  5. If the list is empty (as it tends to be), navigate to your browser of choice and repeat the process. Y

  6. You should now see it listed as an available provider

Remove Bing from the Windows 10 search bar:

Open Chrome and download “Bing2Google” from the Chrome App Store. Install it Now, when you perform a Windows 10 search, Chrome will boot up and take you through to a Google search. Thankfully, you don’t lose any standard Cortana or device search functions by doing this, either

Enable Hey Cortana

Now you can simply ask Cortana a question. To do so, you first have to enable it to respond to the sound of your voice by saying Hey Cortana. Bear in mind that you may be asked to set up your microphone to use this feature.

Here’s how to set up Hey Cortana:


Click the search box to the right of the Start button. A Cortana dialog box appears Click the menu icon in the upper right corner of Cortana’s window. It has three stripes. select menu – Select Notebook – Select Settings. Now Toggle “Let Cortana respond to ‘Hey Cortana.'” to On.

Now the next time you say Hey Cortana into your microphone. You can follow that with a command such as “what’s the weather like?” and get some results. If you just say Hey Cortana the assistant will ask what would you like me to do.

Change Default App Setting

Microsoft’s replacement for its creaking Internet Explorer browser is a welcome change. But it’s eagerness to open everything as the default app is not. However, you can stop Windows 10 using it as default and set defaults for all your other applications. Open Settings and go to System now click on Default Apps. Here, you can reassign defaults for a whole array of services and applications and even assign them by the type of file they open.

Disable Login Screen In Windows 10

Starting with Windows 8 and continuing in Windows 10, users must type their password before logging into their account. This Windows 10 password login screen will appear by default for any user account with which a password is associated.
