Windows 10 version 1809 Notepad Features
With the latest Windows 10 October 2018 update the old text editor, Notepad finally supports UNIX-style end of line (EOL) characters. Specifically, Notepad now supports UNIX/Linux line endings (LF) and Mac line endings (CR.) This means you can take a text file created on Linux or Mac and open it in Notepad—and it will actually look like it’s supposed to! Previously, the file would look all jumbled up, instead.
Microsoft added an “interesting” feature to Notepad where a user can highlight text and search for it on Bing. This feels more like a push to get people to use Bing rather than providing a useful feature for everyone.
Microsoft Added the option “wrap-around” for the function “Find / Replace”. Notepad will store previously entered values and checkboxes and automatically apply them when you reopen the Find dialog box. In addition, when you select text and open the “Find” dialog box, the selected word or a fragment of the text will be automatically placed in the query field the company explains.
There’s also an option allowing quick text zooming (under View >Zoom). The current zoom level will be displayed in the status bar. You can also use Ctrl + Plus, Ctrl + Minus and Ctrl + Mouse Wheel to zoom in and out and use Ctrl + 0 to restore the zoom level to the default.
Also, Microsoft state that the new version of Notepad will finally display line and column numbers when word-wrap is enabled. And you can use Ctrl + Backspace to delete the previous word, and arrow keys to unselect text first and then move the cursor.
Other new Notepad additions with this build, according to Microsoft:
Other minor improvements:
Improved performance when opening large files in Notepad.
The combination Ctrl + Backspace allows you to delete the previous word.
The arrow keys now first cancel the selection of the text, and then move the cursor.
When you save a file in Notepad, the row and column are no longer reset to 1.
Notepad now correctly displays the lines that do not fit completely on the screen.
These are some most interesting Notepad features, Microsoft introduced on Windows 10 (Redstone 5) builds also known as Windows 10 October 2018 update version 1809.
