Solved: Apps missing after Windows 10 version 20H2 update

As We, All know Microsoft Rolled out Windows 10 October 2020 update for Everyone. Compatible Devices Automatically upgrade To the latest version 20H2. Also, Microsoft Released the Upgrade Assistant tool and media creation tool for a smooth upgrade process, but not everyone is having a smooth upgrade experience. While the update brings a number of changes and additions to Microsoft’s operating system, it has also brought problems for some people. Some Users Report After upgrade to Windows 10 version 20H2 some of the apps are missing from the Start menu.

After installing the windows 10 October 2020 update, some apps are missing from the Start Menu on some devices. The missing apps are no longer pinned in the Start Menu, nor are they in the list of apps. If I search for the app, Cortana is not able to find it and instead points me to the Store to install it. But the Store says that the app is already installed.

Restore missing Microsoft Store app in Windows 10

Many users have faced an issue after installing Windows 10 version 20H2 where some Store apps are missing in the Start Menu but Microsoft Store shows them installed. Some Other users Report The App icons go missing from the Start menu as well as Taskbar. Some apps missing from the Apps & Features list in Settings. Also Apps not appearing in Start menu / Cortana search results, Start menu Pinned apps appearing with a “download” arrow icon. but while attempting to install the apps, Microsoft Store informs you that the app is already installed.

There is no specific Reason For this problem, Repair windows apps from Settings, Repair or Reset the missing apps can help to get back the missing apps on windows 10. If you are also having the same issue here some recommended solutions to fix Apps missing after Windows 10 version 20H2 upgrade.

  1. First Check for corrupted system files using the system file checker tool.

  2. Install System optimizer Tool Like CCleaner And run it for clean junk, Cache, Windows Error files etc.

  3. Restart windows and check Apps are on normal State if not apply the next solution.

Repair or Reset Missing apps via Settings

With Fall Creators update Microsoft Added option to repair or Reset the windows apps to default setup. If any specific Apps causing an issue or missing then the Repair or Reset option is a handful solution.

To repair or Reset missing Store apps on Windows 10:

  1. Open Settings, using Windows + I keyboard shortcut

  2. Select apps then Apps & features

  3. Scroll down and find the name of the missing app (For Ex Microsoft Edge Browser).

  4. Click the app and select Advanced options.

Here First Try the Repair option or if Repair does not resolve the issue, you may also try the Reset option, though you might lose any app data that was saved. Once the repair or reset is completed, Restart windows now the app should again appear in the app list and can be pinned to the Start Menu.

Repeat these steps for all other affected apps.

Uninstall and reinstall the missing apps

If that doesn’t help, simply uninstall the affected apps via Apps & Features and then reinstall them from the Windows Store.

  1. Open Settings, and select Apps,

  2. Here On the Apps & features tab, find the name of the missing app.

  3. Click the app and select Uninstall.

  4. Now Open Windows Store and then reinstall the missing app.

  5. Once installed, the app should appear in the app list and can be pinned to the Start Menu.

Re-register all built-in Windows 10 apps

If the above methods fail to fix or have issues with the number of apps Then Re-register all Built-in Windows 10 Apps is very helpful to fix. Especially if every built-in Windows 10 app is affected, Rep-register them give a fresh startup.

  1. Open Power shell as administrator,

  2. Now Type (Copy and paste) the following command on PowerShell window

  3. Hit the enter key to execute the command.

Get-AppxPackage -allusers | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register “$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml” -DisableDevelopmentMode}

This will reinstalls or re-registers all the built-in Windows 10 apps. If showing any red line just ignore and after complete, the process Simply Restart windows and Check all apps are on their place and working perfectly.

Install Microsoft store on Windows 10

Here another solution suggested by Spartan from tenforums.com worked for a number of users.

  1. Simply download the below ZIP file here, which contains various system files and a file called Add-Store.cmd which you have to run as administrator.

  2. Ensure that the file is not blocked by right clicking on it, go to Properties, then look at the bottom if it says this file came from the internet bla bla bla, just hit the UNBLOCK button then Apply then OK.

  3. Then extract it and run Add-Store.cmd as Admin

  4.  It ran for a few seconds and after a reset Microsoft Store returned to its formal glory.

Go Back To the previous Version

If all the above methods fail, Then simply go back to the previous version of Windows, go to Settings > Update & security >Recovery > Go back to your previous version of Windows. And Fallow on-screen Instructions from here.

Note: Windows Go Back to the Previous Version of windows option will not appear if more than 10 days have elapsed since your upgrade to Windows 10 October 2020 update.

After Successfully Roll back to the previous version simply Set the windows Defer upgrade option. To Delay Install and upgrade new updates. And wait for Microsoft to fix the bug with the next update.
