I’ve been waiting for a while now and I’ve been trying out stuff to fix it but I haven’t had any luck, every time I reboot I can hear the sound of one of my apps booting. Anything can help at this point, like somehow getting to factory reset or something. I don’t have any sort of disk or harddrive though to get it to do so. Please help.
There are various reasons that can cause windows updates stuck while installing it may be system files get corrupted while the upgrade process, Windows installed an update bug, Security software causing the issue, windows update files not download or installed properly or may software compatibility causing windows updates stuck installing. Whatever the reason here some applicable solutions you may try to fix the issue and get windows updates installed correctly.
Wait Few more minutes
When you find a situation where the system stuck installing updates “Getting Windows ready, Don’t turn off your computer“. Note: When you power on the computer it will take 1-2 minutes on boot animation because the battery is removed. So no need to worry about it just wait for the computer to start. To connect the battery first shut down the computer remove the charger then connect it. Don’t try to connect the battery, when the laptop is on.
Perform Windows 10 Startup Repair
As due to this problem system stuck at getting windows ready screen, and prevent you from accessing your desktop completely in normal ways. That cause preform Windows Startup repair is the best solution to fix the startup problems which prevent windows from starting and stuck getting ready.
To perform startup repair you need to boot from Windows 10 bootable USB / DVD. If you don’t have then create one by the following link. When you ready with the installation media insert it then press the power button to start your computer. Now press the F8 or F10 key (depends on your system) to access the Boot Menu of your system. Then choose the Boot option, select USB or DVD as per the media used.
Next, you will see the Windows Installation screen on your computer. Skip the first screen and on the next screen click on Repair your computer option. This will Restart windows click on Troubleshoot > Advanced options and then click on the Start-up Repair option.

Uninstall Recently Installed Windows Updates
If startup repair failed to fix these startup problems, And again windows Stuck Getting windows ready screen that causes we need to boot into safe mode and uninstall the recently installed updates. Again access advanced options click on startup setting -> Click on Restart -> Then press F4 To access safe mode and F5 To access safe mode with networking as shown below image.
After booting into Windows 10 safe mode, open Control Panel and then go to Programs and then select Programs and Features option. From the left pane of the Programs and Features window, click on the View installed update option. Now, you will see the list of all the Installed updates. Select the recently installed updates which are leading to Windows 10 getting windows ready stuck issue and Uninstall them.
After uninstalling the updates which were causing the problem, get out of Safe Mode and restart your Windows 10 PC into normal mode. Now, you shouldn’t face any Windows 10 update issues like Getting Windows ready Don’t turn off your computer screen stuck after update.
Reset Windows update components
If startup repair and uninstall recently installed updates failed to fix the problem and again Windows 10 stuck Getting Windows ready Don’t turn off your computer then Reset the windows update components which may be very helpful to fix almost all windows update related problems.
Again on safe mode open windows services and check windows update service, BITS, and sysmain service are not on running sate. If its running simply right click on it and select stop. Now open C:\windows here look for the folder named SoftwareDistribution, Right-click on it and rename the folder as SoftwareDistribution.old.
Note: SoftwareDistribution is the folder where windows download and store update files if any files get corrupted on this folder, or windows installed buggy updates this will cause windows stuck getting ready. And renaming the folder as SoftwareDistribution.old, on next time windows automatically create a new SoftwareDistribution folder and download, store fresh bug free update files. And fix most of windows update installation related problems.
Now restart windows and check on next start windows start normally without any stuck installing updates.
Perform a System Restore
If the above methods ( startup repair, uninstall recent windows updates, reset windows update cache ) still not able to fix Windows 10 getting windows ready stuck issue, then you can simply go for a system restore. As windows is stuck on getting ready screen and prevent to access normal desktop that causes again you need to access advanced option to perform system restore.
Note: keep in mind that restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.
First access advanced options and click on system restore as shown below image and fallow. Select any recent System Restore Point which you have created and follow on screen instructions to complete the system restore process.
Performing above solutions mostly ( almost 99% ) fix “Getting Windows ready, Don’t turn off your computer” but unfortunately, if you still having the problem, Then Reinstall windows 10 is the last and final option to get back your system working correctly.
