windows 10 April 2018 update Version 1803 will install in less than 30 minutes
Joseph Conway, Senior Program Manager on the Windows Fundamentals team announced that it has further speeded up the process of installing the half-yearly updates (Feature updates) of Windows 10. With the next updates since windows 10 April 2018 update Version 1803, Microsoft promised to speed up the update process by up to 60%.
Microsoft has implemented some measures to speed up the installation of the largest updates, acting on the two phases of installation online and offline, leading to the first some operations that were carried out so far in the second. This process refinement made it possible to lower the average update time up to about 30 minutes. That means upcoming windows 10 April 2018 update Version 1803 Will Install within 30 Minutes.
Here is a more detailed comparison of the old feature update installation process versus the new installation model and how things have changed since the Fall Creator’s Update was released:
About Feature Updates A feature update consists of upgrading Windows to the latest version with enhanced features, security improvements, etc. Which Rolled out for Windows 10 twice a year. The feature update is different from the quality updates that are released on “Patch Tuesday.” Quality updates are mostly comprised of security fixes and are installed after a single reboot, whereas feature updates are installed in a phased approach that requires multiple reboots to complete. Feature Update process actually consists of two separate phases —the “online” and “offline” stages. During the “online” phase, the user’s computer downloads the necessary update files and executes various operations in the OS’ background without affecting the device’s battery life or system performance. The “offline” stage occurs when the OS needs to restart several times and keep the user trapped into an “applying update” screen while Windows updates itself with new features.
Now Windows 10 Feature update time will be less than 30min
When Microsoft Released Windows 10 and its subsequent feature updates ( anniversary update, creators update ) it will take 82 minutes on average to install. Due to Such long downtime periods didn’t go unnoticed by most users, who have been complaining about this process all the time.
Joseph Conway, Senior Program Manager on the Windows Fundamentals team at Microsoft, says the company has listened to these complaints. Ever since last April’s Creators Update release, Microsoft engineers have worked to move many update procedures from the “offline” stage to the “online” phase that runs in the OS background.
And the first results of this mammoth task were seen last October when the average “offline” installation time for the Fall Creators Update went down to only 51 minutes.
But now, Conway says that they’ve done additional work in the upcoming Windows release to move portions of migration operations to the online phase as well Which resulted in an overall reduction of offline time when installing builds in the Insiders Program to an average of 30 minutes. That’s a reduction of 63% from the Creators Update!”
