Note: These commands will first Stop the windows update service and its related services. Then rename the SoftwareDistribution folder to SoftwareDistribution.old ( Where windows store update files If any files in this folder get corrupted this may cause windows updates fails to install. ) After that restart the windows update and its related services.

After clear Buggy update files simply run the windows update troubleshooter to check and fix if any other problem prevents windows update to download and install. To run the update troubleshooter.

  1. Press on the Win + I on the keyboard. It will open the Settings window.

  2. Now, Go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

  3. Find Windows Update and click on it and then click on Run the troubleshooter.

  4. Then, Follow onscreen instructions and finish the process.

Wait few minutes and let windows update the troubleshooter Diagnose and fix the problems if there are any. Then restart windows to take effect the changes.

Also Temporarily Disable Security Software ( antivirus ) if installed,

Run System file checker utility to check and make sure corrupted, missing system files not causing windows updates to install again and again.

Sometimes third-party applications also cause windows updates to fail to install or install the same windows update again and again. Start windows into clean boot state to check and identify if any third-party application causing the issue.
